Social Studies
Eastern Hemisphere geography, economics, government, history, and cultural groups will be the focus of our Social Studies program. Sixth grade standards are the basis of our curriculum. As much as possible, Social Studies and Language Arts will be integrated. The students will use multiple textbooks, nonfiction text articles, websites, and simulations to explore Social Studies content. Some of the topics the students will study are:
· Timelines
· Geography- latitude and longitude & regions
· Ancient India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia
· World religions- Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism
· Eastern hemisphere immigration
· Government- monarchies, theocracies, dictatorships or democracies
· Economics- production, human, natural, and capital resources, specialization and trade, supply and demand, competition, price,
· Interpreting data
· Examining different perspectives on a topic from a variety of historic and contemporary sources.
Grading:
All grades will be weighted within categories.
Tests and Quizzes- 30%
Classwork- 30%
Projects- 30%
Homework- 10%
Assignments submitted late (including later the same day) will result in a deduction of 25% per day. Work submitted more than three days late will earn zero credit. Some homework assignments will not be accepted for any late credit at the teacher’s discretion.
